The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has suspended its plan to remove the All People’s Congress (APC) executive, confirming that current leaders will remain in office until the court decides the case.
The Commission had earlier ordered that party affairs be handed over to the APC Parliamentary Leader and five regional representatives if no National Delegates’ Conference was held. That directive is now on hold due to a court challenge.
In a press statement issued today, the Commission confirmed that while it had originally invoked Section 39(5) of the Political Parties Act 2022 to extend the APC executive’s tenure by six months, a secondary directive—which would have transferred party management to the APC’s Parliamentary Leader and five regional representatives if a National Delegates’ Conference was not held—has now been put on hold.
The PPRC stated it is “constrained to effect its second directive” due to a legal challenge filed by a party member against both the Commission and the APC.
The most significant line of the statement reads: “The current executive members will continue to run the affairs of the party, pending the decision of the Court.”
This effectively freezes the leadership transition and leaves the current APC executive in full control until the judiciary rules on the matter, marking a temporary victory for the embattled leadership and a cautious legal pause by the Commission.
