The Sierra Leone Police (SLP), in collaboration with the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) and community stakeholders, has launched a large-scale clean-up exercise across Lungi Township as part of preparations for the upcoming ECOWAS Summit of Heads of State and Government.

In a post on its Facebook page, the SLP said more than 150 police recruits were deployed to support sanitation activities at the Freetown International Airport and other strategic locations within the township.

According to the police, the exercise involved clearing overgrown vegetation, removing waste, sweeping streets, cleaning drainage channels and sanitising public spaces.

The SLP said the initiative is aimed at improving sanitation, enhancing security and creating a clean and welcoming environment for delegates and visitors expected in Sierra Leone for the regional summit.

The police added that the exercise brought together personnel from the SLP, RSLAF and members of the community as part of efforts to promote collaboration and national service ahead of the ECOWAS meeting.
