FREETOWN – The Sierra Leone Teachers Union (SLTU) has written to Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, reminding the government of outstanding fees subsidies for primary and junior secondary schools.

In a letter dated 7th May 2026, the union said subsidies for the second and third terms of the 2025/2026 school year remain unpaid, despite assurances from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education.

According to the union, part of the resolution that ended the September 2025 teachers’ strike included the payment of backlog fees subsidies for the 2024/2025 school year and the first term of 2025/2026. While those were addressed, the union said the government has not fulfilled commitments for subsequent terms.

The SLTU also noted that a joint committee established to resolve all outstanding issues has not met since its inaugural session.

“We are already into the third term with many school authorities struggling to ensure effective teaching and learning in their schools, mostly without the much-needed resources from government,” the letter stated.

The union called on the Vice President’s office for prompt intervention.
