Freetown, July 13 — The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has commended journalist James Tamba Lebbie after he emerged as the leading candidate for the position of Director of Media at the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC).
In a statement signed by SLAJ President Alhaji Manika Kamara, the association described Lebbie’s emergence from what it called a “rigorous, competitive and transparent recruitment process” as “a testament to your professional competence, dedication, integrity, and longstanding contribution to journalism and media development in Sierra Leone.”“This is not only a recognition of your individual merit but also an affirmation of the value of professionalism within our media landscape,” the statement said.
“As you prepare to assume this important leadership role after receiving your offer letter from the Board, we are confident that your wealth of experience, commitment to ethical journalism, and passion for public service will contribute significantly to strengthening SLBC’s mandate as the nation’s public broadcaster,” SLAJ said.
The association also expressed appreciation to the SLBC Board for what it described as consistency in a transparent and rigid recruitment process in ensuring the right candidate secured the position.
SLAJ said it wished Lebbie every success in his new role and looked forward to continued collaboration in advancing media freedom, professional excellence and quality public service broadcasting in Sierra Leone.
