The Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone has issued a strong warning against a counterfeit drug currently circulating in the local market.
The Board, which is the national regulatory body of pharmaceuticals in the country, disclosed that a new batch of Diclofenac Tablets, has been illegally imported by Leigh Pharmaceuticals of Freetown.
According to the Board’s Registrar, Dr. James P. Komeh, the company imported the product without necessary permit, hence the said product cannot be guaranteed of its efficacy nor safety.
In addition, the Board also claimed that this variance of the said drug is the fake version of Paludic, a certified anti-malarial drug that is registered by Abanita Pharmaceuticals.
As such, the board has directed the public to avoid consumption of the drug as well as to report any information regarding its sale or distribution to the board.
