The Ministry of Internal Affairs has issued a strong warning to the public over fraudulent activities involving some of its staff who are allegedly extorting money from citizens under the pretext of processing visas.
In a press release dated January 7, 2026, the Ministry clarified that it does not process visas, stressing that its role is strictly supervisory over agencies and departments under its mandate.
The Ministry cautioned that anyone who pays money to any staff member for visa processing does so at their own risk. It further warned that any staff found engaging in such transactions will be prosecuted and face the full penalty of the law, including dismissal from the civil service.
“The Ministry will not tolerate any form of impersonation or abuse of office,” the statement emphasized.
Members of the public are encouraged to report such incidents and may contact the Ministry on +232 74-834-993 for further enquiries.
The statement was signed by Alfred Lahai, Senior Permanent Secretary, on behalf of the Senior Management of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
