“We Were Let Down”: Samura Kamara Says APC Leadership Engaged in Anti-Party Activities, Calls for Expanded Talks

FREETOWN – Former presidential candidate Dr. Samura Matthew Wilson Kamara has accused senior members of the All Peoples Congress (APC) of engaging in “anti-party activities,” saying the party’s national leadership left the membership and the entire country feeling “let down and betrayed.”

In a letter dated 29th April 2026 to Hon. IB Kargbo of the APC Elders Council, Kamara responded to calls for an expanded meeting to resolve the party’s ongoing crisis. He did not hold back.

“I believe the Party’s national leadership engaged in conduct that qualifies as ‘anti-party activities’ under the party constitution, whether knowingly or not,” Kamara wrote. “The rest, as they say, is history, and it is continuing to date.”

He then posed a sharp question: “What does this really portend for the nation’s democracy?”

Kamara made it clear that he and other “Electoral Justice and Democracy Restoration advocates” within the APC have no agenda beyond correcting the wrong of the 24th June 2023 elections.

“Leading this charge is my sacred duty and selfless service to our people,” he wrote. “The restoration and sustainability of our democracy in Sierra Leone is a task that must be done now and carried infinitely into the future.”

He confirmed his willingness to attend proposed meetings, but only on specific terms. The discussions must focus on the 2023 presidential election and its aftermath, including the implementation of the Agreement for National Unity and the Tripartite Committee recommendations.

Kamara also wants the talks to address what he called the “elephant in the room”: eroding public trust and confidence in the APC National Executive, and the future management of the party relative to the country’s multi-party system.

“We must have by now acquired many existential lessons to draw from,” he wrote.

He indicated that he may send a delegation with full powers during the initial stages of any engagement.

“I share the Council’s earnest,” Kamara concluded, thanking the Elders Council for their efforts.
