The Western Area Football Association (WAFA) has suspended the Community Football Association (COFA) League indefinitely following incidents of violence linked to a match between Kossoh Tong and Kroo Town Road.
In a statement dated September 13, 2026, WAFA said the violence, which occurred after Saturday’s match, was followed by further clashes in the Kroo Town Road community on Sunday, resulting in loss of lives and destruction of property.
WAFA described the developments as a serious concern for public order and the safety of people and property, stressing that football should not become a catalyst for violence or retaliation.
The association said it will conduct a thorough investigation into the incidents and take appropriate regulatory and disciplinary measures.
WAFA also acknowledged COFA’s indefinite postponement of a scheduled fixture between Kossoh Tong and Fourah Bay, but said the measure alone was insufficient given the circumstances.
The association directed that no COFA fixture should be played until further notice and called on participants and community stakeholders to remain calm and exercise restraint.
WAFA said the preservation of human life must take precedence over football.
