According to world-renowned journalist Neil Fetherstonhaugh, the record 40-tonne cocaine seizure intercepted by Spanish authorities has been linked to Dutch fugitive Jos Leijdekkers, who is allegedly hiding in Freetown.

Fetherstonhaugh, reporting for CrimeworldCrimeworld, states that Leijdekkers — known as “Bolle Jos” — is believed to be behind the historic shipment valued at over €1 billion, what he describes as the largest single cocaine seizure in history.

According to Fetherstonhaugh’s report, the cargo vessel Arconian was boarded by Spain’s Guardia Civil off the coast of Africa last Friday. Several Dutch nationals were among the crew overpowered during the operation.

Leijdekkers, originally from Breda in the Netherlands, is allegedly hiding in Freetown, though authorities in Sierra Leone have not confirmed his presence, according to Fetherstonhaugh.

Sierra Leonean officials have not yet commented on the reports
