Climate Procession Held in Sierra Leone Demanding Immediate Action

Over the weekend, the Beckma Empowerment Initiative, led by founder Manty Suma Beckley, in collaboration with Fridays For Future – Sierra Leone, organized a powerful procession demanding immediate climate action.

Despite being a young organization, the group gathered supporters including students from multiple schools, young climate advocates, and community members. The procession sent a clear message to the government and the world: climate action cannot wait.

“We need climate action now. There is no future without it,” said Manty Suma Beckley, founder of Beckma Empowerment Initiative. “We want to capture the mindset of the young generation so that we have a better climate.”

Participants carried signs and chanted for stronger climate education, funding for youth-led initiatives, and urgent steps to address the climate crisis.

Organizers acknowledged the challenges they face, including lack of funding and support. However, they remain committed to working with schools and young people across Breakfast Island and other communities.

“We are facing a lot of challenges, but we refuse to give up,” Beckley added. “We call on the government and everyone to take climate seriously — now.”

The procession ended peacefully, with plans already underway for future climate education events in schools across Sierra Leone.
