Freetown, Sierra Leone – The Anti-Corruption Commission has commenced an investigation into the Sierra Leone Law School, following a series of allegations and counter-allegations between the Council of Legal Education and the institution’s Director, Dr. Abu Bakarr Bangura.

In a press release dated March 30, 2026, the ACC confirmed receipt of a formal complaint lodged by the Council of Legal Education against Dr. Bangura, who served as Director of the Law School. The Commission announced that investigators have begun probing the matter, which it hopes to conclude within a month with the full cooperation of all parties.

The complaint, filed on March 27, 2026, accused the former Director of unauthorized admissions, collection of monies from individuals with promises of admission outside lawful procedures, unauthorized procurement activities, academic malpractice including passing students who failed examinations and manipulation of grades, unauthorized staff appointments, and refusal to hand over Law School property upon the Council’s request.

The Council further alleged that Dr. Bangura signed contracts with contractors without authority and permitted students to undertake the Bar course of study online without the approval of the Council, contrary to sections of the Council of Legal Education Act of 1989.

The Commission has encouraged all parties involved in the matter to give their fullest cooperation as the investigation proceeds. The ACC reassured the public of its continued and consistent determination to curb corruption within the public sector of Sierra Leone.
