Freetown, October 21, 2025 — The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has dismissed social media reports claiming that a container loaded with the drug “Kush” disappeared at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay, calling the story false and misleading.
In a statement on Tuesday, the police said the rumour was part of an attempt to tarnish the country’s image, assuring the public that no container had gone missing and that all seized drugs were properly destroyed in July under official supervision.
According to police records, the container — intercepted in May by the Combined Maritime Control Unit (CMCU) — contained 17 bags of Kush and 91 bottles of precursor chemicals. The items were later handed over to the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU), and a destruction order was obtained from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The destruction, witnessed by journalists and security officials at TOCU headquarters in Hastings, was carried out to ensure full transparency.
The SLP urged the public to verify information before sharing it online and encouraged anyone with credible evidence to support such claims to come forward.
“The Sierra Leone Police remains committed to combating illegal drugs and safeguarding the country’s image from misinformation,” the statement concluded.
