Security officers in Kambia have arrested a 27-year-old Sierra Leonean man suspected of trying to smuggle a large quantity of Tramadol tablets through the Rogberay Joint Security Checkpoint in Gbileh Chiefdom.
According to the police, the suspect, Abdul Akim Bangura, who reportedly from the United States was taken into custody on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, during a routine checkpoint search in Allen Town.
Police say Bangura was found with 1,287 cards of Tramadol tablets, believed to be 250mg each, and two cups filled with red pills suspected to be the same drug. The substances were immediately confiscated, and the suspect was detained for questioning.
Authorities believe the arrest is part of a wider effort by the Local Unit Commander (LUC) and joint security forces to stop the trafficking of dangerous drugs such as Kush, Tramadol, Cocaine, and Cannabis across Sierra Leone’s borders.
Investigations are now ongoing to determine where the drugs came from and where they were headed.
“This operation sends a strong message that security personnel are alert and serious about stopping the flow of illegal substances that continue to destroy lives,” a police spokesperson told reporters.
Police have praised the officers involved, describing the arrest as another significant step in the fight against drug smuggling and the growing crisis of substance abuse among young people.
