The All People’s Congress (APC) has called out Sierra Leone People’s Party National Chairman, Jimmy Batilo Songa over his remarks “the President, the Army, Soldiers, and Marshals to stop the APC in 2028.”, describing it as polarization of security forces.
In a press release dated October 21, 2025, APC described the remarks as “a dangerous and unconstitutional appeal for state security forces to act in partisan interests.”
The party said Mr. Songa’s comments represent a serious threat to democratic governance and the neutrality of state institutions, warning that such utterances could undermine public trust and invite interference in future elections.
“The Constitution demands that our security forces remain professional, impartial, and loyal to the State — not to any political party,” the APC stated.
The opposition party called on President Julius Maada Bio to publicly assure citizens that all state institutions, especially the security services, will remain neutral ahead of the 2028 elections. It also urged the SLPP leadership to formally distance itself from the remarks.
Additionally, the APC appealed to regional and international partners, including ECOWAS, the AU, EU, and the UN, to remain vigilant over what it described as a “worrying political climate.”
Reaffirming its commitment to peace and democracy, the APC urged its supporters to stay calm and law-abiding, emphasizing that Sierra Leone’s future must be determined only through the ballot box.
“The destiny of Sierra Leone must be shaped by the free and fair choices of its people , and by no other means,” the statement concluded.
