FREETOWN – The embassies and high commissions of Germany, Ghana, Iceland, Ireland, Nigeria, and the United Kingdom have called on Sierra Leone’s political parties to fully implement an eight-point agreement aimed at strengthening democracy and national unity.
In a joint statement, the six diplomatic missions welcomed a press statement issued on 20 April 2026 by the ECOWAS-UNOWAS-Commonwealth International Moral Guarantors following their joint assessment mission to Sierra Leone.
The embassies commended the Government of Sierra Leone, the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC), and other stakeholders for agreeing to advance the implementation of the Agreement for National Unity and the Tripartite Committee Recommendations.
“We urge all stakeholders to implement the eight-point agreement within the proposed timelines,” the statement read.
The diplomatic missions said they remain committed as friends of Sierra Leone to supporting the government and all stakeholders in efforts to strengthen participatory democracy and inclusive governance for the peace and prosperity of the people of Sierra Leone.
