The Political Parties Regulatory Commission (PPRC) has directed that the current leadership of the All People’s Congress (APC) — including the National Executive Committee (NEC), National Advisory Committee (NAC), other party officers, and all elected bodies — continue to lead the party for a period not exceeding six months.
The decision comes after Hon. Alimamy Kamara lodged a complaint, arguing that the current leadership was no longer legitimate to conduct lower-level party elections, as their three-year mandate had expired. In response, the PPRC instructed the party’s Independent Electoral Commission (IEMC), which is responsible for overseeing internal elections, to maintain the current leadership in office during this period.
According to the directives, if the National Delegates’ Conference (NDC) is not held within the six-month extension, the Leader of the APC in Parliament will appoint five members of Parliament, each representing one of the country’s five regions, to manage the administration of the party until the NDC convenes. Meanwhile, the IEMC will continue preparations for the party elections to ensure that the process proceeds smoothly.
The extension is issued under Section 39(5) of the Political Parties Act, 2022, which allows for continuity in party leadership while ensuring adherence to legal and electoral frameworks.
