SIERRA LEONE POLICE DISMISSES OFFICER FOR DRUG OFFENSES

In a decisive move to uphold internal accountability, the Sierra Leone Police have dismissed Sergeant Musa Sidikie Swarbay after a disciplinary hearing found him guilty of several offences, most notably the unlawful possession of illegal drugs.

Sergeant Swarbay, who was attached to the Mile 91 Division, faced a disciplinary court on multiple counts. The panel upheld four serious charges against him, including “Improper Practice” for the possession of illicit drugs, failing to follow a standing order from the Inspector General of Police, and engaging in conduct deemed “prejudicial to good order and discipline.”

A high-ranking officer, reviewing the court’s decision, endorsed the findings and ordered Swarbay’s immediate dismissal from the force. The ruling underscores a zero-tolerance policy for such infractions within the ranks.

The administrative officer at the Mile 91 Division has been instructed to ensure all government-issued property, including Swarbay’s police identification and badges, is retrieved from him immediately. The Human Resources department has also been notified to formally process his termination.

The case highlights the ongoing efforts by the Sierra Leone Police to enforce discipline and maintain public trust by holding its officers to account.
