The Unity Party has strongly condemned the SLPP government’s proposal for a power-sharing arrangement ahead of the 2028 elections, describing it as a calculated attempt to manipulate the political process.
In a press release October 20, 2025, the party questioned the timing of the proposal, saying if national unity was the goal, it should have been introduced after the disputed 2023 elections, not now.
“This plan is designed to shape the 2028 race to the SLPP’s advantage,” the party said, warning that it would undermine fair competition and silence voters.
The Unity Party also criticized the government’s past decision to impose the Proportional Representation system without consultation, saying it weakened democracy.
“This so-called power-sharing deal is not about inclusion; it’s a soft insurance policy to keep the SLPP in power,” the statement added.
The party urged Sierra Leoneans to reject any move that threatens free and fair elections, insisting that “power-sharing under these circumstances is not unity — it is the usurpation of democracy.”
