FREETOWN – The Sierra Leone Immigration Department (SLID) has withdrawn a letter issued on 7th May 2026 by the Head of Immigration at Freetown International Airport, clarifying that there are no changes to entry procedures for non-nationals arriving in the country.

In a new circular dated 8th May 2026, addressed to all airlines operating at the airport, Immigration authorities confirmed that visa-free entry and visa-on-arrival arrangements remain unchanged.

The letter, signed by Dr. Moses Tiffa Bala Esq., states that passengers who require a visa must continue to obtain the appropriate visa in accordance with existing regulations.

For outgoing passengers, airlines are required to verify that non-national residents hold a valid Biometric Residence Permit before check-in and boarding. If such a permit is unavailable, a valid visa is required.

The department said the verification process will help minimise delays, ensure compliance, and support smoother airport operations.

The new directive supersedes the earlier letter issued on 7th May.

Airlines affected include ASky Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Turkish Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Air Peace, Air Sierra Leone, Kenya Airways, and all other operators.
