President Babadi Kamara Highlights SLFA First-Year Achievements
The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) President Babadi Kamara has outlined the major achievements of his administration during its first year in office, emphasizing reforms in governance, infrastructure, competitions, and football development.
Speaking at a press conference held on Monday, 3 August 2026, at the Brookfields Hotel in Freetown, President Kamara reflected on the progress made since his administration assumed office one year ago.
He stated that the SLFA has focused on strengthening football governance, improving financial management, expanding competitions, and creating sustainable development opportunities for players, coaches, clubs, referees, and administrators.
Among the key milestones highlighted were the return of international football to Sierra Leone after a five-year absence, marked by Leone Stars’ 1-0 victory over Liberia in Bo, Sierra Leone’s WAFU U-17 Girls’ Championship triumph, and the development of the country’s first Women’s Football Strategy.
President Kamara also cited major commercial partnerships with Leone Rock, Marampa Mines Limited, and Orange Sierra Leone, as well as infrastructure upgrades at the SLFA Secretariat and the SLFA Technical Centre.
Additional achievements include the establishment of the Women’s Football Department and Safeguarding Department, increased regional subventions, the settlement of inherited liabilities, the lifting of FIFA financial sanctions, and the implementation of the FIFA Connect system.
He further highlighted the expansion of football competitions, enhanced coaching and refereeing development programmes, increased participation in the FA Cup, and the appointment of Didier Gomez Da Rosa as Head Coach of the Leone Stars.
President Kamara said these accomplishments reflect his administration’s commitment to transforming football in Sierra Leone through accountability, strategic investment, and sustainable development.
