Dr. Ibrahim Bangura, All Peoples Congress (APC) flagbearer aspirant, has expressed deep concern over the detention of Lansana Dumbuya, the party’s National Secretary General, following his court appearance on Thursday, 12 February 2026.
Dumbuya was denied bail and remanded at Pademba Road Prison after being charged with three counts related to an earlier alleged offence, for which the APC had already been fined by the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC). He had previously been invited and detained for a day by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on 5 February 2026.
In a statement, Dr. Bangura emphasised the importance of tolerance, restraint, and the protection of democratic freedoms, noting that the current developments raise concerns about fairness and the preservation of Sierra Leone’s democratic space.
“Peace and stability in our nation rely on tolerance, fairness, and strong democratic institutions,” Dr. Bangura said. “Sierra Leone’s democracy must remain a space where political rights are protected, and justice is administered fairly and consistently.”
Dr. Bangura called for the fair and lawful application of bail, in line with established legal principles and constitutional rights, while urging APC stakeholders to remain united in support of the party.
“This moment calls for reflection, restraint, and a renewed commitment to the democratic values that unite us as a nation. Sierra Leone’s progress depends on our collective dedication to justice, peace, and reconciliation,” he added.
