APC WARNS MEMBERS AGAINST TAKING INTERNAL ELECTION DISPUTES OUTSIDE PARTY STRUCTURES

The All People’s Congress (APC) has urged its members to resolve all internal election-related disputes through the Party’s established mechanisms, warning that bypassing these channels could undermine the Party’s democratic structures and public credibility.

In a public statement, the Party’s Independent Elections Complaint Board (IECB) noted that a number of internal issues have recently been taken to external bodies. While many of these matters were not directly linked to elections, the Board said such actions risk creating a perception that the APC cannot manage its own internal affairs.

The IECB emphasized that Article 43 of the APC Constitution (2022) clearly mandates the Board to “determine disputes which may arise relating to an internal Party election or the election procedure.” It stressed that all grievances relating to upcoming lower-level elections must be submitted to the IECB or appropriate Party structures, in line with the Constitution.

“The IECB is composed of individuals with experience, legal competence, and neutrality, and is fully prepared to adjudicate matters fairly and promptly,” the statement said. It further reminded members that any objections to voter registers or nomination lists must be submitted within the stipulated timeframe, after which the Board is required to issue a decision.

The Board’s notice underlines the importance of maintaining internal fairness, preventing confusion, and safeguarding the Party’s credibility ahead of the electoral processes.

Osman Soura Kamara, Esq., Secretary of the IECB, signed the statement, calling on members to respect the Party Constitution and allow its established structures to function as intended.
