President Bio Visits Kush Rehabilitation Centre, Reaffirms Commitment to Ending Drug Crisis
President Julius Maada Bio has ended a visit at the rehabilitation center, hosted at the Police Training School (PMTS) in Hastings, where he interacted with victims of kush and other dangerous substances.
President Bio, during the visit, reaffirmed his government’s firm commitment to the national fight against drug abuse, underlining the important role of the task force established to tackle the crisis.
He urged the recovering victims to act as ambassadors of change to their respective communities upon reintegration, using their experiences to inspire others to keep themselves away from drugs.
To enhance enforcement, President Bio said he has instructed the Inspector General of Police to work with the military, who will be without arms, in conducting joint operations in ghettos and criminal hideaways. He described the initiative as a necessary step in ensuring safety and discipline in affected communities.
“The fight against drugs is a collective responsibility,” President Bio emphasized, urging every Sierra Leonean to support the national campaign against kush and its devastating impact on young people.
The President said this while touring the rehabilitation center, where nearly 100 youngsters currently go through treatment and support to recover from addiction. His visit underscores the government’s increased efforts to try and curtail the country’s growing drug crisis, which has attracted public concern and global attention.
