Sierra Leone’s former Vice President Chief Alhaji Samuel Sam-Sumana has on Wednesday, August 3rd, 20025, declared his intention to run for the All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearer ahead of 2028 general elections.
In his declaration, the former expressed concern the APC party’s new constitution, arguing that is restricts individuals political rights. Sam Suman has urged the party to review its constitution to enable fairness and inclusivity. Sam-Sumana emphasized that the Sierra Leone Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to contest for any position, a principle he believes should apply within the APC.
Additionally, the former Vice President had clarified on his membership eligibility to opt for the party’s presidential candidacy, threatening he will seek redressed should the APC executive fail to create a level playing field for aspiring candidates to exercise their political rights in the party.
In this defining moment, the former Vice President has reassured his loyalty for the APC, despite his previous impasses within the party.
