The main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has former Finance Minister, Dr. Kaifala Marah and their Chief Negotiator for the Agreement for National Unity, removing the party’s former presidential candidate, Dr. Samura Kamara, from the position.
The Agreement for National Unity was signed in October 2023, by the party’s then leader Dr. Samura Kamara and the Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, representing the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). The agreement aimed at facilitating the return of the boycotted elected officials of the APC party as well as to address the wider electoral discrepancies emanated from the 2023 elections. This agreement also gave birth to the establishment of the Tripartite Committee.
The SLPP Chief Negotiator, Dr. Sengeh confirmed this change through a social media post, announcing that 37% of recommendations have been completed, 47% still in progress and the remaining 16% is set to commence.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Freetown, Her Worship Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has emphasized the need for a greater alignment on the Steering Committee’s Term Of Reference and its operation.
Henceforth, Dr. Marah will be leading the party in the ongoing implementation of the agreement.
