Government Suspends USD 25 Airport Security Fee
The Government of Sierra Leone has announced the temporary suspension of the USD 25 Airport Security Fee at the Freetown International Airport, effective Monday, 6th July 2026.
According to a public notice issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs on Friday, 3rd July, the suspension will remain in place until further notice. The Ministry explained that the decision follows a Ministerial directive and is intended to facilitate an ongoing independent Special Audit by the Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL), while also allowing for the evaluation of a more seamless and integrated collection system that eliminates public inconvenience for traveling passengers.
“This administrative measure has been instituted while the current contract framework undergoes a comprehensive review. The strategic pause is intended to facilitate the completion of an ongoing independent Special Audit by the Audit Service Sierra Leone and to evaluate a more seamless, integrated collection system that eliminates public inconvenience for traveling passengers,” the Ministry stated in the notice.
The Ministry further assured the public that the directive does not constitute a termination of the operating contract with Securiport (SL) Limited. During this interim period, the company will maintain its core technological background operations and continue logging standard inbound and outbound passenger traffic data, excluding diplomatic passport holders.
The Ministry also called on all Airport authorities to ensure full compliance for a smooth transition on Monday, while extending appreciation to the public for their continued cooperation.
