Freetown, Sierra Leone – The Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA) is facing an urgent legal application after its decision to indefinitely postpone its Annual General Meeting (AGM), a lawyer has argued.
The dispute centres on a notice issued by the SLBA Executive on 1st June 2026, which put on hold the AGM scheduled for 5th and 6th June in Lungi, Port Loko District.
In response, a formal application dated 2nd June was filed with the National Investment Board by Ebunoluwa Finda Tengbe, Esq., described as a fully paid-up member in good standing of the Bar Association.
The application invokes Section 185(4) of the Companies Act, 2009, which addresses defaults in holding mandatory general meetings.
In a letter to the President of the SLBA, seen by the BBC, the National Investment Board confirmed receipt of Ms Tengbe’s request. The Board stated that it views the “Notice of Indefinite Postponement” as a possible cancellation, which effectively “derails” the planned AGM.
No further details on the reasons for the postponement have been provided by the SLBA Executive at this stage.
The National Investment Board has not yet announced whether it will grant the urgent application or what steps it may take next.
