Senior political figure Alie Kabba has called for the upholding of constitutional principles in the administration of justice, stressing that bail remains a fundamental legal right.
Kabba recalled his 2015 arrest under the administration of former President Ernest Bai Koroma, which he described as an abuse of state power that led to his denial of bail and detention at Pademba Road Prison.
He noted that supporters of the Sierra Leone People’s Party, alongside some principled members of the All People’s Congress—including Lawyer Alieu Iscandari—spoke out against the move at the time.
Referencing the current detention of APC National Secretary General Lansana Dumbuya, who is facing charges including alleged insults against President Julius Maada Bio, Kabba urged restraint.
While condemning Dumbuya’s alleged conduct, Kabba emphasized that bail is neither acquittal nor endorsement but a constitutional safeguard that guarantees due process and respect for the rule of law.
He added that the SLPP must continue to stand for constitutional order, democratic maturity, and national unity, urging that Dumbuya be granted bail while court proceedings continue.
