NRA WARNS EIA LICENSE HOLDERS, ISPS, AND MEDIA HOUSES TO CLEAR DUES OR FACE PENALTIES

The National Revenue Authority has written an urgent compliance notice to a wide array of institutions, including mining companies, EIAs holders, ISPs, television and radio stations, and lease holders of state land, among others, with a call to immediately clear all outstanding tax and non-tax obligations.

In a statement issued today, the NRA cited Section 12 of the Finance Act, 2019, which empowers the authority to undertake strong enforcement measures against defaulters.

These measures, the statement warned, will include sealing business premises, garnishing bank accounts, and even restricting the international travel of business owners or representatives.

“The NRA will immediately commence enforcement actions to ensure full compliance and recovery of all due revenues.” The Authority stated.

The Authority calls for the regularization of all financial obligations by affected institutions with immediate effect, failure of which attracts sanctions. Continuous non-compliance erodes national development efforts and deprives the state of much-needed resources.

Such stakeholders have been advised to seek clarifications or further information from the NRA through its designated offices or official channels of communication.

The announcement is perhaps the strongest enforcement warning by the revenue body in recent months and underlines the resolve of the government to strengthen domestic revenue collection and root out tax evasion.
