Freetown, Sierra Leone — The Treasurer of the Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA), Satto Mary Kobba Esq, has responded to allegations raised by SLBA presidential aspirant Martina Baindu Egbenda regarding difficulties faced by members in completing subscription payments ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Egbenda had earlier claimed that some members were unable to finalize and regularize their payments due to the alleged unavailability of the Treasurer, raising concerns about fairness and transparency in the electoral process.
In response, a rebuttal statement has dismissed the claims that the Treasurer “disappeared” or intentionally obstructed registration, describing them as inaccurate and not supported by facts.
The statement noted that Satto Mary Kobba also serves as Treasurer of the West Africa Bar Association, in addition to her legal practice and involvement in preparations for the SLBA Annual General Meeting, adding that her responsibilities extend beyond a single administrative role.
It further stated that the Treasurer’s office remains operational, with some members reportedly confirming they were able to visit and complete payment processes without difficulty.
The rebuttal suggested that the concerns raised may be linked to members who delayed payment of outstanding dues until the final stages of the registration process, adding that bank payment channels have remained available throughout.
It emphasized that registration is tied to timely payment of dues and adherence to established procedures, noting that members who complied earlier have already been registered ahead of the elections.
The statement urged members of the Bar Association to disregard what it described as politically motivated narratives and to focus on the established electoral process.
