Speaking on the party’s ongoing Peace and Reconciliation tour, Abdul Karim Kamara(Lawyer AKK), a member of the All People’s Congress (APC) Publicity Team, discusses the dispute between the party’s executives’ and the former party leader, Dr. Samura Kamara.

This stemmed from the discrepancies of the outcome of the June 2023 elections in which the aggrieved opposition party, APC, initially boycotted participating in governance and eventually led to the formation of a tripartite committee consisting of the APC, SLPP, and international observers. The committee’s goal was to redress electoral disparities from the June 2023 elections as well as other outstanding political disputes.

Following the conclusion of the tripartite committee meetings, a peace agreement was signed by the two parties to work together towards the peace and stability of the country, in addition to recommendations proffered to resolve electoral irregularities.

Lawyer AKK claims that the APC party executives and former party leader Dr. Samura Kamara had a back-and-forth with Samura Kamara’s agenda after the tripartite sessions ended, calling for a rerun of the June 2023 elections, which was not included in the agreement signed.

Consequentially, this further led to factions and disunity created between and amongst members of the party, prompting the party to undertake a peace and reconciliation tour across the country and in the diaspora to reunite the party to have a unison and collective standpoint ahead of the 2028 elections.

Lawyer AKK confirms these fracas’s within the party and the current relationship that exists between the former party leader and the current party’s executive.
