In a press release following the Auditor General’s Tribunal Report, the Freetown City Council (FCC) refuted the report’s findings that the suspended Auditor General and Deputy Auditor General failed to conduct a proper audit of the Council for the Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL) 2020 Audit Report.
The FCC confirmed in their statement that the ASSL had audited them for the 2020 fiscal year and issued an unqualified audit opinion, indicating that the report was free of financial misstatements.
Moreover, the FCC affirmed that all initiatives under the Transform Freetown Projects were accurately recorded in the ASSL-audited financial statements.
Additionally, the FCC stated that all financial documents related to the Transform Freetown Project are available on their website. The project is supported by international donors, none of whom have accused the Council of corruption.
Finally, the FCC noted that Parliament conducted a special audit of the Transform Freetown Project in 2022, but the findings of that audit have not yet been provided to the Council.
