FREETOWN – President Brigadier General (Rtd.) Julius Maada Bio has appointed popular singer Abubakarr S. Turay, widely known as Shady Baby, as Peace Ambassador—a role previously held by rapper King Boss La—and Mr. Mohamed Alphaka Conteh Esq. as Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), succeeding Dr. Emmanuel Saffa, according to a public notice issued from State House on April 30, 2026.

The notice, signed by Secretary to the President Barba B. Fortune, also announced the appointment of Mr. Ahmed Saybom Kanu as Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources. All appointments are subject to parliamentary approval where applicable.

The change at Peace Ambassador sees Shady Baby, a beloved figure in Sierra Leone’s music scene, step into a role previously held by fellow entertainer King Boss La. No official reason was given for the change, and La has yet to comment publicly.

At the NSA, Mohamed Alphaka Conteh Esq., a legal professional, now steps into a role critical to the development of Sierra Leone’s sports infrastructure and talent pipeline. He replaces Dr. Emmanuel Saffa, whose tenure saw efforts to revive national sports programs. Dr. Saffa’s next assignment, if any, was not disclosed.

The appointments come as the government continues administrative reshuffles across various sectors.
