On 24th September 2025 in New York, President Julius Maada Bio secured international endorsement for Sierra Leone’s landmark USD 2.2 billion Mission 300 Energy Compact—the largest infrastructure development in the nation’s history. The endorsement came from the World Bank Group, African Development Bank, and global partners during the Bloomberg Global Forum.

Mission 300 aims to expand access to affordable and sustainable electricity, raising national coverage from 36% to 78%. The plan emphasizes renewable energy, modernized transmission and distribution, clean cooking solutions, and reforms to attract private investment.

President Bio, also serving as Minister of Energy, described the compact as Sierra Leone’s most ambitious and transformative initiative, holding great promise for sustainable and inclusive growth.

The project was coordinated by an inter-ministerial team led by Finance Minister Sheku A.F. Bangura and Dr. Kandeh K. Yumkella, alongside the Energy Governance Coordination Group. With Mission 300, Sierra Leone joins 17 other countries in a global drive to provide clean energy access to 300 million people across Africa by 2030.
