EDSA has released a tentative schedule for power supply across communities in the Western Area.
On March 10th, 2025, the Electricity Distribution Supply Authority (EDSA) released a tentative schedule for electricity distribution across communities in the Western Area, giving residents the opportunity to predict when to expect power .
Due to the numerous challenges faced by the energy sector in the country during the dry season, EDSA recently announced that they have resulted in the implementation of load shedding of power distribution.
According to EDSA, the energy sector depends primarily on the Bumbuna Hydropower, Kapower and the Electricity Generation and Transmission Companyโs generators at Kingtom, but due to a series of challenges from the three major electricity suppliers, EDSA operates under limited electricity supply.
In detailing the challenges, the nationโs electricity supply authority noted that Bumbuna operates at less than a quarter of its capacity during the dry season. Likewise, the generators at Blackhall Road are also undergoing repairs and will be available in the coming months.
Consequently, EDSA can only meet 65% of peak demand in the Western Area, giving rise to the implementation of load shedding.
However, the nationโs power authority concludes by assuring the public that no customer will go without electricity for more than 72 hours.
