The CSOs National Consortium on Public Accountability has called on President Julius Maada Bio to dismiss the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, and establish an independent investigation into the management and performance of the education sector following the withholding of more than 47,000 2026 WASSCE results.
According to the Consortium, the number of withheld results rose from 13,237 in 2025 to 47,454 in 2026, raising concerns about the Ministry’s leadership, supervision and accountability. It says the situation requires urgent presidential attention and a comprehensive review of the Ministry’s performance.
The Consortium is also calling for an independent investigation into the utilisation of education funds, the implementation of education policies and programmes, school supervision and teacher performance management. It wants the findings and recommendations made public, with appropriate action taken where wrongdoing or negligence is established.
Beyond the call for the Minister’s dismissal, the organisation has recommended a nationwide assessment of pupils’ learning outcomes, improved teacher recruitment and professional development, stronger school inspection and monitoring, and increased teacher salaries.
The Consortium says its demand for the Minister’s dismissal is a call for political and administrative accountability, not a declaration of personal or criminal wrongdoing. It maintains that any allegations of misconduct must be independently investigated and established through due process.
The press release was signed by the Consortium’s Executive Secretary, Ahmed M. Yillah, on 4 November 2026.
