PPRC Issues Correction, Upholds Suspension of APC
The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has issued a correction to its initial correspondence regarding the suspension of the All People’s Congress (APC), reaffirming that the party remains suspended for failing to comply with payment of fines imposed by the Commission.
In a follow-up letter dated 11th February 2026 and addressed to the APC National Secretary General, the Commission said the new communication serves as a correction to the earlier letter on the party’s suspension.
According to the corrected notice, the PPRC — acting pursuant to its mandate under the Political Parties Act (Act No. 25 of 2022) — found the APC in violation of Section 39(1) of the Act.
The Commission stated that fines were imposed on the party and formally communicated on 2nd February 2026, outlining the amount, basis, and payment timeline.
However, the PPRC noted “with grave concern” that despite the expiration of the 10th February 2026 deadline and several reminders, the APC failed, refused, or neglected to settle the imposed fines.
Consequently, the Commission reiterated the immediate suspension of the APC from all political activities, including meetings, rallies, internal elections, and administrative or operational functions.
The PPRC further emphasized that the suspension will remain in force until the party fully pays the outstanding fines and obtains written clearance from the Commission lifting the sanction and restoring its operational status.
The Commission urged the APC leadership to treat the matter with utmost seriousness and expedite compliance to avoid further sanctions as provided for under the law.
