Sierra Leone’s Deputy Master and Registrar of the Judiciary, Lloyd Hindolo Jusu, has filed a formal complaint with the General Legal Council accusing lawyer Augustine Sorie Sengbe Marrah of serious professional misconduct. In a December 16 letter, Jusu alleged that Marrah’s actions are aimed at bringing the legal profession into disrepute.
The complaint states that Marrah used “insulting, derogatory and wholly inappropriate language” against judiciary members during a televised programme, remarks it says were “calculated to undermine public confidence in the administration of the Judiciary.” It also references a prior incident in which Marrah is alleged to have climbed onto a table during a Supreme Court meeting—an act captured on video—and notes his October 2020 conviction for criminal contempt by the Supreme Court.
“Taken together, these actions demonstrate a pattern of behavior that violates the ethical standards of the profession, undermines the authority of the courts, and damages the integrity of the legal system,” Jusu wrote.
The Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council acknowledged the complaint in a December 19 notice, informing Marrah that an inquiry may be held and requiring him to file a response by December 29. Marrah, a well-known figure in the legal community, has not yet publicly commented. The Committee’s proceedings remain confidential unless otherwise ordered.
