Former SLPP Secretary General Denies Claims of Missing Party Funds

FREETOWN, Sierra Leone – Umaru Poteon Koroma, the former National Secretary General of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), has denied claims circulating on social media that funds went missing from the party’s account during his tenure.

In a statement addressing a viral video, Koroma said all financial transactions under his leadership were properly documented and followed official procedures. He specifically referenced the one million new leones deposited from fundraising activities at the Bintumni Conference.

Koroma welcomed an audit by the party’s new executive, expressing confidence that such a review would confirm the transparency and integrity of his administration.

He also urged party leaders and stakeholders to avoid statements that could create divisions or undermine individuals who had dedicated themselves to the SLPP, emphasizing that internal disputes could affect party unity ahead of the 2028 elections.

“I call on everyone to tone down and concentrate on the task of winning the 2028 elections to maintain and protect the legacy of President Julius Maada Bio,” Koroma said.

Ending on a personal note, he extended festive greetings to party members and their families, expressing readiness to continue serving the party when needed.
