The Institute for Legal Research and Advocacy for Justice (ILRAJ) has issued a strong worded statement, condemning the remarks made by the All People’s Congress (APC) Falaba District Chairman, Hon. Lahai Marah, during a recent tripartite engagement at the Falaba District Council Hall.
Marah’s remarks, in which he claimed that the APC “has the capacity to resist the military and the police,” and referenced the use of advanced technological warfare, including drones, as well as the ease of procuring private military services, have sparked outrage among civil society groups and legal watchdogs. ILRAJ described the statements as dangerous, inflammatory, and a direct threat to national security and public order.
According to ILRAJ, Marah’s rhetoric undermines democratic institutions, escalates political tensions, and threatens the hard-won gains of national unity and post-war reconciliation initiatives, including reforms stemming from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. “It is deeply regrettable that a forum intended for constructive dialogue and trust-building ahead of the 2028 elections was hijacked for statements that evoke militaristic confrontation and defiance of state authority,” the organization said in a statement.
ILRAJ has called on the APC leadership to publicly dissociate itself from Marah’s remarks, impose disciplinary measures, and put safeguards in place to prevent future incidents. The organization further urged all political actors across party lines to avoid divisive language, reject any insinuations of violence, and recommit to peaceful, lawful, and collaborative engagement.
In closing, ILRAJ reaffirmed its mandate to defend the rule of law and protect human rights, pledging to monitor developments and advocate for accountability to safeguard Sierra Leone’s democratic progress.
