Electricity company urges public to report illegal activities along the 161kV transmission corridor.
The Electricity Generation and Transmission Company (EGTC) is raising the alarm over acts of vandalism on the Bumbuna 161kV Transmission Line, a key link in Sierra Leone’s national power supply.
According to the company, some sections of the line between Waterloo and Lunsar have been damaged by unknown individuals who are tampering with tower parts and other materials. EGTC warns that such actions are not only illegal but extremely dangerous.
“When these towers are weakened, they can collapse and bring live electric wires to the ground,” the company said in a public statement. “That could cause serious harm or even loss of life, disrupting electricity for thousands of people.”
The company is calling on the public, especially those living near the Bumbuna Line, to stay alert and report any suspicious activity. Reports can be made at the nearest police station or by calling +232 76 878492 or +232 76 959117.
EGTC says protecting the Bumbuna Line is everyone’s responsibility. “This is our national power lifeline,” the statement added. “Let’s work together to keep it safe.”
