The United States of America Embassy in Sierra Leone announced that Chargรฉ dโAffaires Jared Yancey will be leading the Embassy following Ambassador David Bryan Huntโs Resignation.
Mr. Yancey, who is the currently the Deputy Chief of Mission has wealth of experience in the diplomatic field.
As profiled on the Embassyโs official website, he has served in a number of international diplomatic missions including Consular Officer in El Salvador and Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Lahore, Pakistan.
On domestic assignments, Mr. Yancey has served as Desk Officer for Zambia and Eswatini; Career Development Officer, Speechwriter and Special Assistant in the Office of the Director
A native of Portsmouth, Virginia, Yancey holds a B.A. in international studies from Bethune-Cookman University and an M.A. in public and international affairs from the University of Pittsburgh.
The Embassy confirmed that Ambassador Huntโs resignation became effective on September 17, 2025 due to personal and family medical considerations. After he has served in Sierra Leone for two years. Hunt was hailed for his dedication and commitment to strengthening U.S.โSierra Leone relations.
The Embassy has yet to comment on the reappointment of a new ambassador to Freetown.
