The government of Sierra Leone has heartily welcomed the recently approved $480 million Millennium Challenge Compact from the Government of the United States of America, aiming at boosting the countryβs energy sector and other national developments.
Since it was initially signed in September, 2024, the country has been under a comprehensive review to meet the programβs threshold, hence this approval signifies a successful completion of key requirements.
The approved $480 million MCC Compact seeks to address the countryβs growing challenges in the energy sector. It is designed to strengthen the foundation of a reliable electricity supply by providing an expansion of its national power grid, improving electricity distribution, and strengthening institutional frameworks surrounding the sector.
In addition to the Compact, the government of Sierra Leone has announced a contribution of an additional $14.2 million to the program.
In closing, the government of Sierra Leone has reassured its commitment to enter its implementation phase to bolster the energy and solidify the bilateral relationship with the United States.
