The Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, has demanded the resignation of Clerk of Parliament, Hon. Dr Umarr Paran Tarawally, raising concerns over conflict of interest and misconduct.

According to Hon. Kargbo, the Clerk of Parliament has publicly declared his candidacy for the position of Secretary General of a political party, contravening the established laws that prohibit a public servant from holding executive positions in political parties.

Hon. Kargbo added that Hon. Paran’s conduct constitutes a fundamental violation of the laws seeking to protect the public service from political influence and further poses a threat to the impartiality of the parliament.

Additionally, Hon. Abdul Kargbo claims that the clerk of parliament has publicly made derogatory statements against members of the opposition, suggesting that such statements contradict his position that requires him to serve all members of the parliament without prejudice.

Finally, if he does not resign from his office, Hon. Karbo threatens to cease all engagement with him and stop recognising his authority as Clerk of Parliament.
