On Wednesday, April 30th, 2025, massive crowd of Burkina Faso citizens assembled to stage a peaceful demonstration in support of the country’s Junta ruler, Ibrahim Troare’s anti-imperialism movement, following another coup attempt.
The anti-imperialism, aiming at emancipating Africa from Western dominance, has attracted attention from millions of people across the world, and many Africans have showed their solidarity via social media posts.
Reports suggest that the protest was staged at the central of country’s capital, Ouagadougou, where protesters were loudly chanting expressions like “Long Live Captain Troare”, and displaying of placards bearing strong messages of support for the his movement.
In solidarity, many Africans took to social media to express their support for Captain Troare, who was criticized by the United States’ military in Africa, General Michaël Langley.
General Langley reportedly accused Troare of using the country’s mineral resources for benefit of the Junta, suggesting that he in insincere with the people of Burkina Faso.
In 2022, Captain Taore overthrown the then interim president, Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, through a successful coup de’tat and became one of the youngest head of states in the world at 34 years old.
Ever since he came into power, Captain Taore has reportedly faced several coup attempts, aimed at dethroning him from power, with the latest coup attempt being announced recently by the Burkinabe government.
Many people across the world, particularly Africans who believe in Troare’s vision of liberating Africa from Western domination, have called on other African leaders to unite against imperialism.
