GHANA’S CARDINAL TUCKSON EMERGES AS AFRICA’S FORERUNNER FOR THE PAPACY

Following the death of Pope Francis, the conclave, the process of choosing a new pope, is set to commence on May 7th, 2025.

Among the Eights being identified for papacy, Cardinal Tucson stands out as Africa’s prominent contender, with aspirations of making history as the first black pope.

This is the second time he has been considered for the candidacy of Pope, he was previously considered in 2013 after the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI.

Who is Cardinal Peter Tuckson?

Cardinal Peter Tuckson is a Ghanaian who was born in 1948 into a family of 10 siblings and grew up in a humble family and his father was a carpenter.

He became a priest in 1965 and was ordained as the first Ghanaian cardinal in 2022 by Pope John Paul II. He has been part of the conclave for two successive terms.

In 2009, he was in charge of justice and peace.

He is a bright, vibrant cardinal who believes in human development and justice for all.

Finally, Cardinal Peter Tuckson will make history as the first African pope if he succeeds.
