According to a letter dated January 20, 2026, the All People’s Congress (APC) Census Technical Committee has formally reminded the Statistician General of Statistics Sierra Leone of his commitment to convene a special technical meeting to address concerns over the ongoing cartographic mapping exercise for the 2026 Population and Housing Census.
The APC stated that during an earlier engagement on the completion of Phase One of the mapping exercise, the party raised serious questions about the basis for allocating mapping teams across districts, as well as the nature of the data captured so far. The party also requested a detailed timetable for the remaining three phases of the exercise.
The APC further noted that districts in the southern and eastern regions were allocated disproportionately more mapping teams than those in the Western Area, Northern and North-Western regions. It also complained that the presentation by Statistics Sierra Leone did not include Enumeration Area (EA) data disaggregated by chiefdoms.
According to the letter, the Statistician General had promised to convene a special technical meeting with the APC Census Technical Committee to explain the allocation formula, address data variations and respond to other concerns. However, the APC said one week has passed without any communication regarding the proposed meeting.
The party clarified that the promised technical meeting is separate from the Census Advisory Committee meeting scheduled for January 22, 2026, stressing that the two committees have different compositions and mandates.
“The meeting of one should not be considered to address the concerns of the other,” the APC emphasized, calling for a dedicated and well-structured engagement with its technical committee.
The APC reaffirmed its commitment to an inclusive, transparent and credible census process conducted in line with international best practices, while expressing readiness to engage constructively with Statistics Sierra Leone.
