Sierra Leoneβs Parliament has on Friday, November 7th, 2025, summoned mobile network operators to respond to their recent increment of weekly data prices. This decision had sparked public concern, particularly because the companies did not inform the public beforehand.
During the session in Committee Room 1, the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, voiced his strong dissatisfaction. He stated that many students depend on the Le 60 weekly data bundle for their schoolwork and that the price hike would negatively affect their studies. He directly called on Africell and Orange to review the new data prices.
When questioned by the committee about the reason for the increase, the Director General of Orange Sierra Leone, Sekou Amadou Bah, responded that they did not raise the price for data itself. He explained that the company regulates data tariffs and other services, which can affect the speed of the data a customer purchases.
In his concluding remarks on the issue, the committee chairman, Hon. Boston Munda, directed the mobile network operators to reverse the weekly data price to the old rate within the next 24 hours. He emphasized that the Parliament exists to regulate and resolve issues that affect the people of Sierra Leone.
