SIERRA LEONE POLICE NAB FUGITIVE FROM NOVEMBER 26 FAILED COUP

FREETOWN, Wednesday 28 January 2026 — The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have arrested Kandeh Sesay, a fugitive wanted in connection with the November 26, 2023 failed coup, the SLP confirmed.

According to the SLP, Sesay, described as a notorious criminal, escaped from the Male Correctional Centre, Pademba Road, during coup-related disturbances and had been on the run since.

The SLP said he was apprehended on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, following intelligence-led operations in the Mount Aureol and Leicester communities. The arrest was carried out by the Operation Support Division (OSD) acting on credible information, the SLP added.

The SLP is working with the Sierra Leone Correctional Service to confirm Sesay’s identity and facilitate further legal proceedings, the police confirmed.
