The All Peopleโs Congress (APC) has been holding series of activities in preparation for the 2028 elections. In their most recent engagement, all flagbearer aspirants were invited to discuss the partyโs direction, vision, and goals. Speaking on Liberty Online TVโs Breakfast Show, the partyโs National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sidi Yayah Tunis, outlined the outcomes of these engagements and the partyโs roadmap.
Tunis emphasized that the executive leadership is central to unifying the party and keeping aspirants engaged ahead of 2028. He stressed the need for comradely understanding among members, saying the party must remain united on where it wants to go and how it intends to get there.
According to him, for the first time, APC will create a manifesto before selecting a flagbearer, ensuring that whoever emerges as candidate runs on the partyโs agenda and vision rather than personal ambitions. He explained that the party now has coordinating teams and specialized committees on areas such as the census, the Tripartite process, and election preparations, to avoid the challenges faced in 2018 and 2023.
Tunis further clarified that campaigns will be run by the party, but once a candidate becomes president, governance will be different. The party will also decide the choice of running mate, based on competence, values, and alignment with APCโs mandate for the people of Sierra Leone.
On internal disagreements, he argued that โdisagreement does not mean disunity,โ noting that the party is managing its differences while staying focused. He dismissed rumors that APC is pushing to unseat President Julius Maada Bio in favor of Dr. Samura Kamara, saying the party is โresponsible enough not to fight for what is wrong.โ
He also highlighted APCโs new rules submitted to the PPRC, which stipulate that aspirants must be scandal-free, in good standing with party dues, and at least one year old in the party. These rules, if unchallenged will be ready by September 11,2025 and it will take effect on October 1st 2025.
On the national front, Tunis commended the Tripartite Agreement and the National Unity Agreement, while also affirming APCโs stance on elections: Sierra Leone should maintain the first-past-the-post system, as proportional representation (PR) was only an emergency measure. He warned that PR risks creating one-party dominance and weak accountability.
Finally, he praised the work of the security sector, noting the partyโs good working relationship with security agencies, and expressed hope for even stronger collaboration ahead of 2028.
